The Chikmagalur–Yeshwantpur daily fast passenger train was flagged off at Chikkamagaluru on Tuesday. Shobha Karandlaje, Lok Sabha member from Udupi-Chikmagalur, flagged off the train in the presence of senior officers of the Mysore Division of the South Western Railway.

People of Chikkamagaluru had been demanding a train to Bangalore from the town. Railway Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda had announced the fast passenger in his budget speech. Train no. 56277 will leave Chikkamagaluru at 7.30 a.m. and reach Yeshwantpur at 2.15 p.m. In the return direction, the train (no. 56278) will leave Yeshwantpur at 3.15 p.m. and reach Chikkamagaluru at 10.20 p.m.

On the occasion, Chikmagalur MLA appealed to Ms. Karandlaje to urge the Centre to get a railway line connecting Chikkamagaluru and Hassan via Belur. This route would help tourists visiting Belur and Halebid in Hassan district.

MLA D.N. Jeevaraj was among those present.
