Ashwin Deo woos the youth with bottled sangrias!

Normally, old wine in a new bottle shouldn't be an exciting prospect. But in the case of Turning Point Sangrias, it calls for a celebration. This ready-to-drink product line introduced by Trinity Vintners Pvt Ltd, founded by Ashwin Deo, is all about making wine approachable and fun.

Deo says the idea to bottle sangrias came after he realised how popular his wine-based drinks had become in restaurants across Mumbai. "We have been serving sangria made with Turning Point Wines at various bars, restaurants and hotels for more than three years now. The kind of traction that it got from young consumers was amazing," he reveals.

Deo considers "bottled sangria" a concept that takes the fuss out of wine. "Most people are trying to educate consumers about wine which is great. While this needs to be done, wines also need to be promoted in the context and setting of an Indian home. Some young consumers were getting left out of the 'traditional' wine scene," he argues.

Turning Point's bottled sangria is similar in taste to a typical restaurant cocktail, except for one difference – it doesn't contain actual fruit and instead uses near-natural fruit flavours. "It is not possible to add real fruits in the bottle as there would then be a lot of concerns surrounding it. However, should you choose to use fruits, all you have to do is add some chopped fruits to the drink," he says.

In order to woo young consumers, the sangrias have been affordably priced at Rs 135 per bottle. Having already launched in Mumbai, the sangrias will also shortly be available in Pune. "I am hoping that the uniqueness of the drink will attract more and more consumers."
