A 42-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself in a private lodge on Geetha Hall Road here apparently after facing severe loss in his business.

COIMBATORE: A 42-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself in a private lodge on Geetha Hall Road here apparently after facing severe loss in his business. Police said he had taken a petrol bunk on lease and it incurred losses. He consumed alcohol mixed with pesticide and later hanged himself, the police said.
The deceased was identified as S S Mohammed Aazam of Ramakrishna Layout at Pollachi.
On Monday night, he came to the private lodge and took a room.
On Tuesday, the staff noticed that the room was not opened till 8am and knocked the door. But there was not response from the room and they immediately informed Race Course police. A team of police under inspector C Chandrasekar and sub-inspector Prema rushed to the room and broke open the door. Police found Mohammed Aazam hanging using a nylon rope.
According to police Aazam owned a driving school and two acres of agriculture land in Pollachi. He had taken a petrol bunk on lease in Pollachi but faced severe business loss and was struggling to repay the loan amount.
The body was sent to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) for postmortem. Later, the body was handed over to relatives in the evening. Race Course police registered a case under section 174 (unnatural death) of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) and investigation is on.
