Arrangements are in full swing on the beach front at Suryalanka as lakhs of devotees are expected to throng the place on Thursday to have a holy dip on the occasion of ‘Kartika Pournima’.

The revenue, police and transport authorities are making elaborate arrangements to ensure that people have a hassle-free visit. Bapatla MLA Kona Raghupati held review meetings with revenue and police personnel and asked them to gear up for the big day. Regional Manager, RTC, P.V Rama Rao said that special buses would leave Guntur in every half an hour and buses would leave from Bapatla in every ten minutes to Suryalanka. Adivi Panchayat, in which Suryalanka is located, has constructed a new block of 32 toilets and dress changing rooms exclusively for females. Water packets will also be distributed to devotees.

No plastic, please

Meanwhile, the Forum For Better Bapatla has urged devotees not to carry plastic bags and other plastic material to the beach. The use of plastic has been banned by the Panchayat authorities as they pose a danger to aquatic life. Students and other volunteers cleared up the beach front on Tuesday.
