Woman gang-raped by five

A 33-year-old woman of Tadpatri in Anantapur district was allegedly gang-raped by five persons near the Pennar waterworks on the outskirts of Proddatur on Sunday night.

According to Proddatur Rural Circle Inspector Bhaskar Reddy, the victim came to Yerraguntla and took an auto rickshaw to go to Proddatur. Kesaiah of Proddatur and four others, who were on board, took her to the waterworks on the outskirts of Proddatur.

The accused consumed liquor, forced the victim to do the same and raped her, the CI said. Later, they left the woman near Chand Theatre on Mydukur Road. Following a complaint by the woman, Proddatur Rural police registered a case against the accused.
