Priority for providing fluoride-free water to all villages: Ambareesh

Government will release adequate funds for the purpose, he says

The State government is committed to providing purified fluoride-free drinking water to all villages in the district, Minister for Housing and in-charge of the district M.H. Ambareesh has said.

Inaugurating a water purification plant that functions on reverse osmosis (RO) at Maragowdana Halli in the taluk on Sunday, he said the government had established similar plants in 166 places across the district, including Maragowdana Halli. A sum of Rs. 292 crore had been allocated to the scheme of supplying clean drinking water to all rural households in Mandya, he said.

Over 3 lakh houses

Urging the gram panchayats concerned to ensure that the plants worked effectively and provide fluoride-free water to people, Mr. Ambareesh said that the government was releasing adequate funds for the purpose.

Housing

Mr. Ambareesh said that the State government would construct three lakh houses under various schemes across the State this year. Last year, the government had constructed 3.17 lakh houses, he said.

Deputy Commissioner M.N. Ajay Nagabhushan, Mandya tahsildar Priyadarshini, zilla panchayat member K.S. Vijayananda, Maragowdana Halli gram panchayat vice-president Shivamadaiah and others were present.

Meanwhile, Mr. Ambareesh also inaugurated a primary health centre (PHC) in K. Gowdagere village in the taluk on Sunday.
