Raj’s 19-yr-old daughter fractures leg in road mishap at Mahalaxmi

MNS chief Raj Thackeray’s 19-year-old daughter, Urvashi, was seriously injured in a road accident near the Mahalaxmi Racecourse early on Sunday.

Urvashi suffered head injuries and a fracture in her left leg after the scooter she was riding on with her friend skidded on the road along Mahalaxmi station around 2.30 am. Witnesses said that Urvashi was riding pillion and was flung from her seat. It was not immediately clear what caused the twowheeler to go into a skid.

Passers-by rushed her and her female friend to Jaslok Hospital on Pedder Road, but on Sunday morning, the Thackerays shifted her to Hinduja Hospital, which is nearer to their residence in Dadar.

Urvashi’s head wounds needed eight stitches and doctors also operated on her fractured leg in the afternoon. “She is stable now. I cannot disclose more details because of doctor-patient confidentiality,” said Dr Sanjay Agrawala, a senior orthopaedic surgeon at Hinduja.

Urvashi’s friend was not seriously injured and was discharged from Jaslok. According those close to the Raj Thackeray family, Urvashi was returning home from a friend’s place when the accident took place. Following the mishap, Raj cancelled his planned visit to Kalyan-Dombivali. Urvashi is a student of DG Ruparel College.

She is receiving care in a deluxe room on the 15th floor of Hinduja. Uddhav Thackeray and his wife visited the hospital to check on her condition. Former state minister Narayan Rane also paid a visit.

When Urvashi was first taken to Jaslok, doctors did not know who she was. The 19-year-old, hospital sources said, also initially appeared reluctant to reveal her identity as she didn’t want special treatment. But when she filled the requisite forms, the staff realised that she was the MNS chief’s daughter and fast-tracked her treatment.
