Several government and public sector companies are coming forward to offer internships to first batch students of IIIT Nuzvid, run by Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT).
RGUKT, the brainchild of former Chief Minister Y. S. Rajashekara Reddy, was established in 2008 to impart quality education to meritorious rural youth and generate more job opportunities to them.
The university authorities have made elaborate plans to offer coaching to the first batch of young engineers, who would be completing their six-year integrated course, thus helping them appear for State and National-level competitive examinations.
“We applied for various government, public sector and private companies all over the country for internships and the response is good. RGUKT is planning to offer best jobs to the students,” said Nuzvid IIIT Director Ibrahim Khan.
“In the recent directors’ meeting, the varsity officials discussed the strategy for extending quality training and placements. RGUKT had approached DRDO, DRDL, Department of Telecom, All India Radio, Indian Railways, Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, Singareni Colleries Company Limited, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited, VTPS, AP Genco and Transco and AP Tourism,” Prof. Khan said.
IITs too
The Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Delhi have come forward to offer internship to the top ten rankers of the university. The two-month course will begin from April this year, Prof. Khan told The Hindu on Monday.
Placement cell
A placement cell has been set up at RGUKT, Hyderabad, and a placement officer would be appointed soon at IIIT Nuzvid.
The placement office will guide the students on career planning, communication, soft skills and on campus recruitments. “While majority of students are showing interest for jobs, some are opting for higher education.
Some are keen on doing research. The IIIT officials are also interacting with the parents and apprising them of the opportunities available,” said the director.
