Faridkot illegal arms case: Chandigarh-based industrialist’s son arrested; revolver, Rs 10 lakh cash recovered

Faridkot Police has linked the case with the illegal arms case which was unearthed last month following arrest of eight persons and recovery of eight imported and illegal weapons worth Rs 2.5 crores.

Faridkot  SSP SS Kahlon confirming the arrest said, “We are investigating the details. Brother of Gursher Singh Pannu is already named in the illegal arms case. His name is Gurtej Singh Pannu, but he is yet to be arrested. Gurtej was found to be involved in the sale purchase of illegal arms as per our investigations and even for providing shelter to the persons involved in this gang and hence our preliminary investigations indicate that Gursher must have come to Faridkot to give money to few others regarding this case only. Rest will be revealed as the investigations proceed.”

Last month, police had arrested eight persons and Gurtej’s name  cropped up during the investigation and hence he was named in the FIR. SSP Khalon said, “The red beacon is again a misuse, just to confuse public and even police. The industrialist was not entitled to use red beacon on his car but still he was using it blatantly. Last night city police asked the person to stop his car and when he did not stop, he was chased and arrested.”

Police stated that the weapon as per the statement of Gursher was of his father TS Pannu, and police will study the papers to assert whether this weapon was genuine or part of the illegal weapons in which fake bills were issued to sell imported weapons at higher rates. Regardless of the investigation,  Gursher was not supposed to carry weapon of his father as per rules.

SSP stated that one gun house owner Ranjit Singh of Mansa had also been arrested and many other gun houses will also be linked with this case. They used to issue fake bills to sell weapons and hence were earning profit in the range of Rs 10-20 lakhs per weapon. SSP told that few more weapons had been recovered and the teams were trying to retrieve the remaining weapons as well, which are in the market.
