The Goa Government, south Goa-based Mormugao Port Trust (MPT), a major port and National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) on Sunday signed a tri-partite agreement in Mormugao, south Goa on Sunday to complete a five kilometer stretch of a four-lane highway to MPT at a cost of Rs. 546 crores.
Union Minister for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari, along with Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, were present at the event where the agreement was signed. Others present included representatives of Mormugao Port Road Company Limited and MPT, MPT Chairman Cyril George, Joint Secretary (Ports) Ministry of Shipping Muruganandam.
Mr. Parrikar said that the State government will provide funds of Rs.200 crores for road elevation while Central agencies will spend Rs.276 crores.
Mr. Gadkari said that the stretch of road would be completed in two-and-a-half-years. eom
