Karate trainer molested in North Delhi

November 02, 2014 12:47 pm | Updated 12:47 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

A 24-year-old female karate trainer was allegedly molested by a shopkeeper at Burari in North Delhi. The incident took place on Friday night when the victim along with a male friend was returning home from her training school.

“When the girl reached Sant Nagar market, a shopkeeper later identified as Rajesh, held her hand and tried to molest her in full public view. The girl, being a karate trainer, defended herself and then attacked the man. A call regarding the incident was received at the police control room around 8 p.m. and a PCR van reached the spot,” said a senior police officer.

A case was later registered against Rajesh.

PTI adds:

Rajesh then called up his friends and they ganged up to beat up the girl. When the victim’s coach – who had reached the spot after he got a call from the girl – tried to intervene, he too was roughed up.

The police have arrested the prime accused.

Meanwhile, the victim’s family claimed that the police initially tried to hush up the matter and had asked them to settle the matter through mutual consent.

The police have denied these allegations.
