Ansari injured as two groups clash in Budgam

Srinagar, Nov 1: The situation in majority of the Shia dominated areas of Central Kashmir was tense today after two groups clashed during a Moharram procession this morning in Budgam.
Two factions had been running a dispute over the right to organize Majlis in Khandah, Chadoora area of Budgam. One group was denied permission by the police to hold the Majlis but they managed a gathering in the morning.
The other faction objected and it led to clashes. The police reached the spot and the rival groups pelted stones at them. Police charged batons on them leading to clashes.
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Pattan, Molvi Imran Ansari was injured in the police baton charge.
After the news about the clashes spread in the other areas, Shias protested and there was tension in parts of Srinagar and Budgam.
Meanwhile, Srinagar district administration is imposing restrictions in parts of city on Sunday due to Mohrram processions.
A spokesman of the district administration said that the Government is imposing restrictions in the areas of Kralkhud, Maisuma, Shergadi, Kothibagh and Parimpora. “No civilian and traffic movement will be allowed in these areas”, he added.
