Two days before exams, Kalina college students shocked to learn their admission was ‘never done’

Though students of Alkesh Dinesh Mody Institute of Management Studies had submitted the examination forms and fees, it was not updated on MU’s online system by the institute

Over 120 third-year students of Alkesh Dinesh Mody Institute of Management Studies in Kalina were in for a shock on Saturday, two days before their exams, after learning that their admissions at the institute was never done.

According to students of Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS), most of whom completed their first and second year at the same institute, they had submitted the admission forms as per the criteria, along with a fee of Rs 16,620 in the beginning of the academic year. “Like every other student, we were busy preparing for the exams and were awaiting our hall tickets. However, we never received them. The college administration too kept evading our inquiries about it. It was strange that even a week before the exams our hall tickets did not arrive at the institute,” said one of the students.

On Saturday, when students visited the examination centre on Vidyanagri campus, they were informed that their names were not there in the university records as their admissions were not done and hence they were ineligible to appear for the exams.

The students then approached senate member Sanjay Vairal, who visited the pro Vice-Chancellor. “The pro V-C assured us that the university would help students to appear for exams. We have even written to the university authorities to take stringent action against the college administration,” Vairal said.

“Though students had submitted the examination forms and fees, it was not updated and processed at the university’s online system by the institute’s administration. We have now updated the records of these students. By Sunday, their hall tickets will be generated,” said Dinesh Bhonde, Controller of Examination, Mumbai University”

Festive offer

Despite several attempts, institute’s director Dr S V Ratnaparkhi was not available for comments.
