Meet Stewie, This Week’s Adoptable (Pint Size!) Running Dog

We’re used to seeing big, brawny dogs here in our Adoptable Dog of the Week feature, so we’re mighty please when the little guys get a shake. This week’s pup is Stewie, a 19-pound fur ball who’d be happy to join you on a run. Read all about him below.

Name: Stewie

Location: PAWS Adoption Center (2nd and Arch Streets)

Breed: Shih Tzu-mix

Age: Three years

Weight: 19 pounds

Running style: Stewie likes to run but needs short breaks to rest his short legs. He’s also quite happy to be held or sit on your lap. He loves exploring the neighborhood around the shelter.

Why Stewie is awesome: Stewie is a city-sized dog, with medium energy. He gets along with other dogs of all sizes. Stewie does like to be treated gently though, so a household without children would be best. Oh, and did we mention that he has one blue eye and one brown eye?!

If you are interested in meeting Stewie, e-mail dogs@phillypaws.org for an application or contact the adoptions staff at 215-298-9680, ext. 16. You can find out more about Stewie and other adoptable animals here. And for more awww-worthy photos, check out our previous adoptable running dogs here.

We work with The Monster Milers each and every week to profile local running dogs waiting to be adopted. The Monster Milers are a group of runners who help shelter dogs burn off  energy and get much-needed exercise by taking them on runs around the city, and they also just launched their first-of-it’s-kind Adopt a Running Buddy foster program. If you’re not in the market for a pup right now, but would still love to help out homeless dogs, you can always become a Monster Miler volunteer or foster parent. Find out more about how to get started with those processes here.
