A Cambridge woman has been arrested after escaping police custody on Friday afternoon.

Police say the 34-year-old was arrested Thursday night after a shoplifting incident at Conestoga Mall.

She later complained of a stomach ache, and police took her to Grand River Hospital.

Once there, police say she escaped.

She was seen running barefoot toward Mount Hope Cemetery. Police found her on the third floor of the medical centre on Pine Street, where they arrested her.

She will appear in court next week on charges of theft, possession of stolen property and escaping custody.
