Shine Tom set to play a baddie
Director Jayaraj’s next film, Ottal, is loosely based on Anton Chekkov’s short story Vanka. The director has roped in newbie, master Ashanth, to play the child protagonist while Shine Tom Chacko plays the villain in the film.
So, who plays Vanka’s grandad? A source close to the director says, “While we were at the shooting location in Vagamon, the director came across Vasudevan, a local, and asked him if he could play the role.” Sabitha Jayaraj is also a part of this sync sound film, the shoot of which is currently progressing.

Shine, whose last film Ithihasa saw him play the hero for the first time, says, “This is an interesting story; I will join the set only after a few days.” The actor has also signed up for Bibleo, an offbeat film, and has another project with Binu A S, which will see the team of Ithihasa reuniting for the second time.
Filmmaker Jayaraj is known for his art house films and has bagged National and State Awards for his works. The director’s Kaliyattam was an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Othello, for which he had won a National Award.
