MUMBAI: The Union HRD ministry on Thursday issued a clarification to the directors of all IITs, saying that the letters forwarded to the premier institutes on October 15 was “in routine manner, without any view having been taken thereon”. The ministry had forwarded some letters written by a group from Madhya Pradesh, seeking to set up separate eating places for vegetarian students at these institutes.
The clarification was issued by under secretary A K Singh’s office. The letters claimed that students are consuming non-vegetarian food and adopting western culture and bringing grief to their parents. IIT-B officials said they have not seen the letters and will not be able to comment.—Yogita Rao
