Aamir against anti-drinking warnings on screen

The recent announcement by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) that scenes which depict actors drinking on screen will now have anti-drinking warnings has not gone down too well with the film industry. In fact, Aamir Khan at the launch of the PK trailer made it clear that he was against such disclaimers.
“I feel that within the creative of the film nothing should be written, whether it is an anti-smoking or anti-drinking warning. I am also of the opinion that we should not encourage smoking or drinking. In fact we should discourage people from doing it, but I don’t think these warning are a solution as it spoils the narrative of a film. It is not fair in terms of freedom of speech and neither is it fair for the audience who is paying for the ticket and is disturbed with such warnings. We can do a lot of messaging just before the film starts or after it ends. We show many good and bad things in films, so that way there should be a warning below every bad deed. For instance, a person slapping another or the bank robbery shown in Dhoom 3!,” said Khan.
Film-maker Vidhu Vinod Chopra agreed with Khan stating that, “It’s counter-productive as the message draws attention to the vices.”
