The viscera of Indian Police Service (IPS) trainee officer Manu Mukt Manav, who drowned in a swimming pool on the premises of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy at Rajendranagar on August 31, contained traces of ethyl alcohol, police sources said.
Viscera preservedThe viscera was preserved and sent to Andhra Pradesh Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis to ascertain causes of death of Mr. Manav, who jumped into the pool with his clothes on after attending a party.
Case of suspicious deathA case of suspicious death under section 174 of Criminal Procedure Code was registered.
“We received report from APFSL stating that the viscera had traces of ethyl alcohol,” Cyberabad police officials associated with the investigation of the case -not willing to be quoted- said on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, forensic doctors of Osmania Medical College, who performed autopsy of the body, had sent a report to the investigators stating that the death was due to drowning.
“That puts an end to doubts raised by some that there could be some foul play behind his death,” the officer said.
Investigators reconstructed the sequence of events that resulted in the death of IPS trainee officer on August 31 on NPA premises.
Jumps into swimming poolOver 100 persons, including IPS officials and trainee officers, attended a party organised close to the swimming pool.
Around 10 p.m., Mr. Manav jumped into the pool along with another IPS trainee officer reportedly after they challenged each other over their swimming skills.
While the other officer trainee swam to the shore, Manav drowned.
He fell unconscious by the time others pulled him out.
However Manav was declared brought dead by the doctors after being taken to a hospital.
Since no evidence was found to suggest any foul play, investigators said the case would be eventually closed.
