Rawat pitches for inclusion of Uttarakhand in Smart City project

Dehradun: Uttarakhand government will submit a proposal to the Centre suggesting cities from both Garhwal and Kumaon regions of the state which can be included in Narendra Modi government's Smart City Project.

At a meeting held at his residence last night, Chief Minister Harish Rawat instructed officials concerned to prepare a proposal selecting cities for the ambitious project from both regions and submit it to the Centre.

Rawat who has always pitched for inclusion of at least one city from Uttarakhand in the Smart City project ever since the idea was broached, said the proposed cities should?have an identity for tourism, culture and religion.

Areas suggested by the CM which can be explored for proposing cities for inclusion in the scheme ?are Dehradun- Haridwar- Rishikesh-Mussoorie belt, Haldwani, Ramnagar Almora- Nainital belt and Tehri- Chiyalisaudh- Chaukuthiya-Gairsen belt.

Asking officials to prepare the proposal immediately, the Chief Minister said a mission director will be appointed for this.

Besides that, a separate Programme Monitoring Unit will be formed so that the work related to DPR is completed on time.

He said, proposals based on several ideas must be presented.

All states will be sending their proposals to the Centre for inclusion in the project under which 100 cities around the country are to be selected and developed as Smart Cities.
