NAGPUR: Despite being a medical emergency, not much is known about the things-to-do in case someone gets a stroke. To highlight this medical emergency, Samarpan Hospital and Research Institute organized an awareness program on the occasion of World Stroke Day on Wednesday.

Detailed information about stroke and its complications was given by Dr Karandikar. "Treatment of stroke is much more effective if is given to the patient within 24 hours of an attack. Some medicines are such that when given in this duration, most patients recover much faster and do not lose functionality of any organ," she said.
Complications of blood pressure, blood sugar and high cholesterol were discussed by Dr Dhoble. He said that some of the causes behind stroke including habits like alcohol and tobacco consumption can easily be avoided by the individual. Other causes can also be kept in control by regular monitoring of vital signs.
