Marriott near Disney’s Oahu resort to become a Four Seasons
The JW Marriott Ihilani Ko Olina Resort, about half-a-mile from Disney’s Aulani resort on Oahu, will be rebranded as a Four Seasons.
Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts plans to offer privately owned residences alongside hotel rooms at its new acquisition.
This is just one of the developments expected to lure visitors to lesser-known west Oahu.
No date has been announced for the name change, but the Marriott Ihilani website shows that it is accepting reservations for stays only through Jan. 10. Four Seasons promises a redesign of the property, which will be called the Four Seasons Resort Oahu at Ko Olina, according to a news release.
It will be Four Seasons’ first property on Oahu and the company’s fifth in Hawaii.
Marriott will maintain a nearby presence with the Ko Olina Beach Club. The nearby Disney Aulani resort opened in 2011.
The properties are near the town of Kapolei, about 17 miles northwest of Honolulu International Airport and 25 miles from Waikiki.
They are all within the Ko Olina master-planned community, which features four oceanfront, white-sand lagoons connected by 1 1/2 miles of walkways.
Kapolei may never rival Waikiki, but its fortunes are definitely rising. Groundbreaking for Ka Makana Alii, a shopping, dining and entertainment complex, is expected later this year.
The center is scheduled to open in phases starting in 2016 and promises to bring two more hotels to the area, along with about 100 other businesses.
