BHOPAL: Senior professor of IIT-Kanpur N S Gajbhiye has shot off a letter to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) urging the investigating agency to email questions that it wants him to answer in connection with alleged recruitment scam that took place during his tenure as vice-chancellor of Dr Hari Singh Gour Central University in Sagar. CBI is now considering asking IIT-K management to withhold his salary.
'On the run' Gajbhiye against whom CBI had pasted copies of summons on IIT-Kanpur board, reportedly told the agency he was suffering from coronary problems and it would be difficult for him to visit Madhya Pradesh for 'interrogations' over and again.

Notices have been pasted under Section 160 of CrPC under which an individual can be summoned to appear before investigating officer, a CBI officer said. He was last asked to appear on October 16, but he failed to turn up.
"We received a letter on Monday in which Gajbhiye requested to mail him a questioner related to investigations. He claims to be suffering from cardiac problems," said a CBI officer wishing anonymity.
Gajbhiye was working as a professor in IIT-Kanpur before his appointment as first VC after it became central university in 2009. His services were returned to IIT-Kanpur after completion of five year term though he wanted to continue. In his five-year stint in Sagar, Gajbhiye who courted controversy for rampant corruption has many complaints filed against him.

After carrying out investigation in secretive manner for a year, CBI had raided residential and office premises after filing a case of illegal appointments of 153 professors by the university in 2010. During course of raids, investigating agency stumbled on Rs 1.21 crore he had allegedly deposited in his bank accounts both in state and outside.
"We have written to banks to hand over all documents related to Rs 1.2 crore that were deposited in various accounts," the officer said.
Fresh FIR against Gajbhiye was filed for his alleged involvement in computer purchase scam in the central university.
