DIYARBAKIR, Turkey
A Turkish soldier injured Wednesday in an armed attack in southeastern Diyarbakir province died Thursday, according to hospital officials.
A statement Wednesday from the Turkish General Staff said Master Sergeant Nejdet Aydogdu had been shot in the head at close range by two masked men in a market.
The attack occurred around 5:00 p.m. Turkish time (1500GMT) Wednesday as Aydogdu was shopping with his wife. The soldier was immediately rushed to hospital.
Police have begun an investigation and a search is underway for the perpetrators.
