Happy tidings

Affable TV host Gaurav Kapoor is beaming more than usual these days. With good reason. The former VJ is getting married to his girlfriend of two years, Kirat Bhattal, this Sunday in Chandigarh. Kirat too works in television and hosts a travel show on a lifestyle channel.

Speaking to us from his family home in Delhi in the midst of last minute wedding prep, the lanky Kapoor said, “I suddenly realised I’ve reached a marriageable age and since we’d been seeing each other for some time it made sense to settle down. Also,” he added as an afterthought, tongue firmly in cheek, “she is quite lovely.”

Being humane

O ne of Bollywood’s most beautiful, but now estranged couples – Hrithik and Suzanne – zipped in an out of Pune separately over the last four days. While business brought Duggu to town on Sunday in his capacity as co-owner of F C Pune, before the team took on F C Goa, Suzanne was in town on Wednesday afternoon to pay her last respects to the Chordias, at the Uthamna ceremony for Ajay Chordia at Salisbury Park.

The Panchshil Hotels CMD Ajay Chordia committed suicide on Monday at one of his own properties at Pimpri-Chinchwad.

Suzanne’s quiet appearance took everyone by surprise. But, we think it was a thoughtful gesture indeed, for the celebrity interior designer’s association with Chordias’ Panchshil Realty began a few years ago when she was roped in to design living spaces for the Yoopune Residences, created by Philippe Starck. Clearly, a professional association has grown into a mutual bond of respect and concern. She would know well what it means to stand by friends during hard times.

With typical self-effaciveness Rahul Dravid tried to keep a low profile as he stood on the sidelines of an under-12 match being played as part of the Gopalan Cricket Challenge at Bangalore’s ITA Grounds on Wednesday. While Dravid’s encouragement of young cricketers is well-known, we were still surprised to catch him at a match for under-12s. Which prodigy had he espied? Turns out Rahul’s 11-year-old son Samit was batting and the proud pop had tuned up to encourage him. We are happy to report the day ended well as Samit who plays as an all-rounder had a good game and Dravid, basking in that happy knowledge, agreed to pose for keepsake photos.

Tailpiece

Last week, when Mumbai was giddy celebrating Diwali, Ashish Goel, better known in social circles as fashionista Prerna Goel’s former husband and designer-stylist Surily Goel’s brother, was doing his good deed for the new year. A fire broke out in a locked flat on the 23rd floor of luxurious Kemps Corner highrise Grand Paradi’s B Wing where Goel lives. The son of shipping magnate DP Goel, we are told, ran right up, grabbing a fire extinguisher to put out the blaze before the fire brigade could arrive. Plucky, we say.
