Guwahati:
Assam chief minister
Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday rubbished media reports of
Assam State Jamiat Ulama having an unholy nexus with jihadi organizations of
Bangladesh by saying that the government has no evidence to prove this.
Lok Sabha MP Badruddin Ajmal, who is the
president of
AIUDF and also the Assam State Jamiat Ulama, is facing angry protests over the issue.
The media reports on Tuesday are based on findings purported to have been made by a government intelligence agency.
Gogoi, who is in New Delhi, said the
state government would still want to probe and find the truth behind the allegation against the Jamiat. “There is no evidence against the Jamiat or the AIUDF with the state government. Unless we have evidence, there is no question of taking action against anyone,” Gogoi said. He added, “I will start an investigation from the state government’s side and find the truth. Anyone found indulging in such acts of terrorism will be booked and not spared.”
