SEC tops Power 5 skill rankings

Insider College Football

Over the past few weeks, ESPN Insider has featured the top 10 quarterbacks, top 10 running backs and top 10 wide receivers in college football.

This fourth part of the series will rank the skill position platoons of each Power 5 conference to determine which conference has the best skill position players.

These rankings are based on how well players from these conferences performed in games against other Power 5 teams. In order to maintain a sense of balance, certain minimum workloads were established: quarterbacks had to have notched 100 pass attempts (save a few exceptions) to be listed as a qualifier; running backs had to post at least 50 plays from scrimmage; wide receivers and tight ends had to post a minimum of 20 receptions.

The players are then further broken down into grades: elite, above-average, average and below-average.The overarching idea in assigning these grades was to give the best marks to players who had superb metrics both from quality and quantity perspectives. Once the grades were assigned, each conference's skill position talent level was then measured and ranked against the other conferences, and a final conference grade given.

Now that the preliminaries are out of the way, let's take a look at the rankings.
