NASHIK: The progress of works related to the Kumbh Mela will now be available online through a software developed by the Kumbh Mela cell.
The software will keep a tab on the development of the works being carried out by every department of all the 23 agencies working for the Kumbh infrastructure. Services are to be provided to over 1 crore pilgrims who are expected to visit Nashik for each of the shahi snans scheduled during the mela in 2015.
The works are being monitored through on the basis of programme (project) evaluation and review technique (PERT) and critical path method (CPM). Every work being carried out by the respective agencies has been fed in the software, with the timeframe required to complete. Preceding work and works to follow will also be fed to the system to offer a timeline of progress. Officials will now be able to feed updates on the works on a daily basis and agencies too, can feed the system online, from any location.
Organizations have completed almost 45 per cent of the Kumbh Works so far. It is expected that the works will be finished before March 2015. The agencies have a grace period of two months for completion of works.
"We are now focusing on the details for parking lots. The detailed projects for passenger and pilgrim-oriented services in parking lots are being discussed and the plans will be frozen, after which the implementing agencies will start their work," said an official from the Kumbh Mela cell.
Parking lots will host provisions for water supply, refreshment rooms, restrooms for staff, sheds for pilgrims and emergency services, including medical services and ambulances, to cater to the needs of pilgrims visiting the city.
Divisional revenue commissioner Eknath Dawle is expected to make site visits to oversee work being carried out. "The revenue commissioner, who reviewed the meeting on Tuesday, has said that he will make field visits to almost every Kumbh work being carried out in and around the city, once a fortnight. The plan is to get an idea of the ground reality of the works," the officer said.
