Following a $50 million funding round last month, reddit launched its next big thing Wednesday morning: a crowdfunding site called redditmade. The service allows reddit users to create and sell their own products, similar to services like Cafepress and Zazzle.

You can use redditmade to design t-shirts, hats, stickers, or "something super specially customized and unique," reddit's announcement says. The site will help you source products for your creation and in some cases even assist with the design. The best part? It's all free. As with other crowdfunding sites such as Kickstarter, the catch is that you need to get enough people committed to buy your product within 30 days to fund its production.

Reddit says one of the primary reasons it created redditmade was so that subreddits could create official merchandise for their communities, and it shows. The site's home lists all the products together, with no way to sort by type or search by subreddit group, probably because potential buyers will be arriving via a link to a very specific product. On the upside, when you create something for a subreddit that is approved by a moderator, reddit will run free ads to drum up sales.

The profits from a campaign can go anywhere you choose, from your own beer fund (U.S. accounts only) to donations to your favorite charities. Like reddit itself, redditmade offers an additional level of security and anonymity. When placing an order you don't have to share any personal information.

Most of the current campaigns are for products such as t-shirts and stickers, though there's a rogue pair of headphones in the mix as well. A custom t-shirt can be yours for roughly $20, and the headphones are reasonably priced at $99.

For now, the site looks like a great way to bring reddit-branded merchandise sales in-house, but not a great alternative for any other sort of product. That appears to be exactly what reddit is going for in the short term; the site gets a cut of the profits of shirt and sticker sales.

Redditmade is currently in open beta. You can buy a new sticker, or try your hand at creating your own.
