I would characterize today’s meeting as helpful, sincere, and constructive.

Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian stated the aforesaid during a briefing with reporters, after Monday’s talks in Paris between the presidents of Armenia, France, and Azerbaijan.

“Numerous matters were discussed relating to the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Our [, the Armenian party’s] approach coincides with the position of the [OSCE Minsk Group] co-chairs that the implementation of these measures [i.e., talks] can create favorable conditions to achieve progress in the negotiation process.

“Azerbaijan [, however,] approaches [this issue] from the other end of the pitch thinking that if a progress is achieved in the talks, this may create conditions for the implementation of confidence-building measures.

“At the meeting of the presidents, there also was an opportunity to reflect on several regional and international matters, which showed that the approach of the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan may also be close on some issues.

“I believe another small step was taken today towards drawing the positions of the parties nearer,” Nalbandian specifically stated at the news briefing.
