The Delhi Police have arrested a 23-year-old man who had allegedly shot dead his girlfriend’s maternal uncle after her family prevented him from meeting her.

The accused, identified as Mohammad Amaan, a resident of Shahanjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested in Khajuri Chowk around 10 p.m. on Monday following a tip-off.

On October 20, the police received a call around 2:15 a.m. that a firing had taken place in Vijay Park.

When senior police officers reached the spot, they found a woman identified as Fatima along with his son Gajanfar.

Fatima told the police that Amaan had come to her house around 12:30 a.m.

He knocked at the door and wanted to meet her daughter.

The woman did not open the door and called her brother Uvesh Khan to tackle the issue.

“Uvesh Khan reached the spot with his friend Naved and took Amaan to a lane in front of Fatima’s house and tried to reason with him. However, Amaan got angry and said that he would not spare anyone who would come between him and his girlfriend, and started firing in the air,” said DCP (Northeast) R A Sanjeev.

He then took Uvesh away with him on gunpoint. Around 4 a.m., he rang up the 20-year-old girl and asked her to meet him failing which he was going to kill her maternal uncle.

Repeated requests

“Despite repeated requests by the girl to spare his uncle, Aman shot him twice on his head and chest, and made her hear the gunshots on phone. On getting the information, the police team rushed to the spot and shifted Uvesh to GTB Hospital in the PCR Van, where he was declared dead,” said Mr. Sanjeev.
