Car smashes into Gucci store on Collins Street

A car has smashed into the shopfront of luxury fashion store Gucci in Melbourne's CBD.

Police and paramedics were called to the corner of Russell and Collins streets about 8.20am after reports a car had careened into a building.

Police spokeswoman Clair White said the car was performing a hook turn on the corner of the two streets when it was clipped by another car, which caused it to hit the shop front.

Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman Amelia Harris said the driver of the car was not taken to hospital.

The scene has been cleared.

Correction: an earlier version of this story stated that a car had smashed through the window of the store, but later reports suggest the car hit the shopfront only.
