IT and ITeS units in the city are back in operation despite the massive hit they took from cyclone Hudhud a fortnight ago. There are some glitches like assured bandwidth connectivity and stable power supply to some units, but this has not stopped many from getting back to work within days of being hit by the very severe cyclonic storm, representatives from nearly all IT and ITeS units in the city said at an interactive session organised by the APIIC here on Tuesday. APIIC chairman P Krishnaiah, IT Advisor to State Government J Satyanarayana, Development Commissioner, VSEZ S Kishore and Joint Director STPI MP Dubey represented the Government.

Discussing the way forward to minimise the impact of any such natural calamity on the operations of the IT sector, the IT Advisor said that he would suggest to the Government establishment of a calamity-proof facility which would help ensure business continuity for IT companies.

The APIIC chairman promised to take up the issue of stable bandwidth with the Internet service providers and get it addressed at the earliest.

The other issue of insurance claims was being addressed separately, Mr Krishnaiah told The Hindu. The meeting was by and large positive, however there were individual issues that would be addressed, he said.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had suggested a meeting with the IT industry to draw up a plan of action to revive the IT sector.

Responding to suggestions from the industry representatives, Mr Satyanarayana said that he would organise events of global interest in the city to get more IT companies to invest here. The APIIC chairman said that he would push forward the proposal for underground power cables.
