TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Surakarta City administration has initiated Solo Great Sale for the whole month in Feburary 2015 to celebrate Surakarta City anniversary on February 7, Surakarta Culture and Tourism Agency’s Marketing head Budi Sartono said on Tuesday, October 28, 2014.

“February is the low season for Surakarta,” Budi said in a meeting with hospitality business owners on Tuesday, October 28, 2014.

The sale event, according to Budi, is the best approach to attract tourists and is expected to provide advantages for tourism business.

Budi is optimistic that the great sale event can be realized and supported by shopping centers, retailers and airlines.

“We just need to agree on how much discount to be provided and boost promotion,” Budi said.

Solo Paragon Mall general manager Ngatiman Wikrama said that he will support the great sale month in Surakarta, provided that the government would clarify on how much discount is allowed and what incentives the government will provide for business owners.

“We’re asking for tax incentives, particularly those related to billboard. The largest cost for event is the promotion cost,” Ngatiman said.

Garuda Indonesia’s marketing and sales manager Endy Latief said his company is ready to support and give special discount for flights to Solo. Endy also asked for incentives, such as tax incentives or permits facilitation, from the government if his company is to participate in the program.
