Calcutta Classical Guitar Society organized Live In Youth — a four-day musical fest — as part of Chess For Youth at ICCR recently.
Presented by Bickram Ghosh, the musical extravaganza saw a performance by Folk Nations — featuring Patsy Reid, Hannah James, Georgia Ruth, Suhail Yusuf Khan, Saurav Moni, James Mackintosh — which was in collaboration with Live in Youth, ICCR and British Council.
The group, which represents a synthesis of folk music from the UK and folk music from the UK and India, performed songs and tap dance to a full house and also received standing ovation. The inaugural day of the event saw performances by Priyangbada Banerjee and Saikat Chattopadhyay. Folk and lokgeeti by Sanjoy Mondal enthralled everyone.
Day II featured Bengali pop duo Kabir and Shiva, classical guitar by Theophilus Benjamin and Folk Nations. The audience on Day III was treated to folk music by Aakhor, originals like Pothikerchithi by SurajitSaha, Bangla rock by Suspended Fifth, folk and semi classical music by Souvik Roy and popular Bengali and Hindi songs by Sudipta Gain.
SauravMoni, who sang Ami sararatronoukabaiya, Gohingangedhorlampari and Allah megh de was thrilled to be part of the show, said, “This four-day event was a mix of classical and pure folk music. I had a great time performing here."
