Woman trampled to death while posing for a photo with an elephant in Kerala

While standing near the elephant, she was hit by its trunk and fell down in between the animal legs.

A woman tourist from Gujarat was trampled to death while trying to pose for a photograph with an elephant at Kerala’s hill station Munnar on Monday evening.

Police identified the victim as Dipali, 27, wife of Rinkesh. The family hails from Rajpipla city in Narmada district in Gujarat. The woman, a school teacher, met with the tragic end in front of her husband and four year old son. They were among 14-member tourists from Gujarat.

Quoting eye witnesses, police said Dipali and others were posing for photographs with the elephant, used for safari. While standing near the elephant, she was hit by its trunk and fell down in between the animal legs. A worried Dipali tried to get up, but got under the leg of the elephant in the presence of the other members of the tour group.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital, but died later. The body would be flown to Gujarat by noon.
