Cong ministers clueless about reshuffle

Guwahati: Even as chief minister Tarun Gogoi is waiting for AICC chief Sonia Gandhi’s nod for cabinet reshuffle, Congress ministers and legislators are clueless on the impending rejig.
“I have no idea about the reshuffle. This is something which only the chief minister knows,” said food and civil supplies minister Nazrul Islam said.
Gogoi on Monday met AICC general secretary and in-charge of Assam C P Joshi and is expected to meet Sonia Gandhi’s political advisor Ahmad Patel later in the evening.
However, Gogoi’s meeting with the AICC president is likely to take place on Tuesday.
Gogoi is currently camping in New Delhi since Saturday to discuss his plan to form a new ministry with AICC leaders.
It is believed that Gogoi’s meeting with Joshi was about how to go about with the cabinet reshuffle, which has become imperative after health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma resigned, and two other ministers — Siddique Ahmed and Ardhendu Dey — were dropped in the thick of dissident activity.
“Party high command will have the final say. Until that happens, it is not possible to say anything on reshuffle,” a senior Assam Pradesh Congress Committee leader said.

Sources added that one thing is certain that the performance of the ministers will definitely come into picture and those lacking efficiency would be dropped.
Though reshuffle has become a necessity, sources said the drubbing of Congress in a series of elections in the country, including the latest ones in Maharastra and Haryana and dissidence within the state Congress, might have prompted AICC leaders to take a serious look at the rejig plan.
This has become important in the state because BJP has been able to make inroads in many Congress pockets in the run-up to the Lok Sabha election.
“AICC no doubt wants an overhaul in the 13-year old Congress government. I think it is also considering revitalizing the party, especially after the poor show in the Lok Sabha polls,” the Congress leader added.
