Frocktober for charity

Frocktober for charity

Imagine waking up and not having to decide what to wear each day. For the month of October that has been the case for Hilaire Carmody, whose wardrobe had already been picked out for the fundraising challenge Frocktober, an event to raise money for the Gynaecological Cancer foundation. Originating in Australia, more women in New Zealand are picking up the Frocktober challenge and donning dresses to raise awareness for this charity.

For Hilaire, the original challenge of being sponsored to wear a dress sometime during the month of October wasn’t enough for her. She upped the stakes for herself by choosing to wear a different dress from her wardrobe each day of the month, and then sell all 31 dresses on Trade Me after the fundraiser is over. All proceeds from the sales will go towards the New Zealand Gynaecological Cancer Foundation. “It’s a way to bring a bit of fun to a cause close to my heart” says Hilaire.

Hilaire has been recording her daily outfits on a blog with quips and quotes to keep her motivated. “The dresses become like characters, each day you become something slightly different. They add a different tone to the everyday” Details for her blog and donations can be found at www.givealittle.co.nz/cause/gofrrocktober

The possibility of exhausting her wardrobe for the sake of charity hasn’t phased Hilaire “dresses and clothes come and go, but the chance to help other women lead long and healthy lives is worth it.”

Frocktober will run until October 31st, with donation being collected up until November 10th. Auctions will be on Trade Me from November 2nd.
