Executive Director of the Assam Oil Division of the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Kaushik Bora, who went missing on Sunday, was traced and rescued by the police inside a forest in Tinsukia district of upper Assam on Monday.
Superintendent of Police Akhilesh Kumar Singh told The Hindu that the IOC official had been there for nearly 24 hours.
“It is still not clear why he went inside the forest after abandoning his car. Investigations are on to ascertain the facts and to rule out foul play,” he said.
No ransom callThe SP said the police decided to launch a vigorous search operation after confirming that there was no ransom call or extortion or abduction threat by any outfit. “We found him inside the forest and escorted him back to Digboi town,” he added.
Mr. Bora, who holds the number two position in IOC’s Digboi refinery — the country’s oldest refinery set up in 1901— went missing after he left his official residence in the township of Digboi oil refinery on Sunday morning.
The police later found his personal car abandoned inside the reserve forest.
The official was traced about two km from the spot where his car was found abandoned.
