Revelry at a housewarming ceremony turned into tragedy with the murder of a man in a village in Chickballapur. A property feud between the brothers was said to be the reason for the horrific incident.
The police identified the deceased as Munireddy (60), a resident of Kottanur, under rural police limits, on the outskirt of Chickballapur town.
Munireddy was not on good terms with his elder brother Ramappa as he was denied a share in their father’s property.
Ramappa constructed a new house in the village and the housewarming ceremony was slated to take place on Monday. Unhappy over his brother constructing a house without giving him his share, Munireddy and his sons reportedly entered the new house on Saturday night and a quarrel ensued.
In the process, Ramappa and his sons allegedly doused kerosene and set Munireddy on fire.
Munireddy was admitted to Victoria Hospital in Bangalore with severe burns and succumbed to injuries on Sunday.
The police have registered a case against eight persons including Ramappa, his sons and others. Teams have been formed to nab the absconding accused.
Chickballapur Superintendent of Police Divya visited the spot.
