Muharram begins with Isteqbal-e-Aza procession

The month of Muharram started on Sunday. Many processions were taken out to commemorated the martyrdom of Imam Husain and his 72 followers at Karbala in Iraq. Slogans of ‘Ya Ali, Ya Husain’ reverberated in the air.

ALLAHABAD: The month of Muharram started on Sunday. Many processions were taken out to commemorated the martyrdom of Imam Husain and his 72 followers at Karbala in Iraq. Slogans of ‘Ya Ali, Ya Husain’ reverberated in the air. Nauhas were recited. The procession of Isteqbal-e-Aza was taken out from Rani Mandi. An ‘alam’ procession was taken out from Dondipur.

Isteqbal-e-Aza procession started from Kazmi Street and went towards Hashim Road and terminated at Chamman Khan Hata. Various anjumans recited nauhas, highlighting the tragedy at Karbala.
The programme started with the recitation of holy Quran. Janab Hasan addressed the gathering and spoke about the sacrifices made by Imam Husain and his companions.
A traditional ‘alam’ procession was taken out from Kallan Hajjam Imambara in Dondipur. It passed through its old route, going through Machchli Bazaar, Baran Tala, Shahnoor, Aliganj, Sabzi Mandi, Chowk Kotwali, Sewai Mandi, Nakhas Kohna and ended at Pathar Gali.
Majlis have also started. A majlis was organized at Imambara Syed Miyan near Clock Tower in Chowk. Addressing the majlis, Maulana Raza Abbas Zaidi spoke about the importance of Quran and Hadees. He also shed light on Karbala tragedy.
A ten-day majlis programme had started at Imambara Deputy Zahid Husain at Chowk.
A majlis for women will be held at Imambara Syed Miyan on October 27. It will be addressed by Rana Naqvi.
Meanwhile, various imambaras were cleaned and whitewashed for Muharram. Salawat Ali Khan is one such historical imambara located in Dariyabad, where a rare treasure of ‘alams’ are preserved.
