Honda looks to Bangladesh as model motorcycle market

Work at Honda's plant in Bangladesh involves a great deal of manual labor as machinery is minimized to reduce costs.

TOKYO -- The world's largest motorcycle maker is launching a marketing offensive in one of the poorest countries in Asia.

Honda Motor has a global motorcycle market share of 30%, but only 5% of the Bangladeshi market. Though successful in many emerging markets, the Japanese automaker has been trailing Chinese and Indian rivals in outlying parts of Asia and Africa. Honda wants to change this, and is looking to its new strategy in Bangladesh to foster this.
