Alva’s Vidyarthisiri on October 31

Award-winning actor director Master Kishen would inaugurate the Alva’s Vidyarthisiri, a one-day literary-cultural event for students, being organised by Alva’s Education Foundation on October 31.

Noted writer H.S. Venkatesha Murthy would deliver the valedictory address while N. Shraddha from Paivalike Government High School, Kasaragod, would chair the day-long event to be held at Alva’s campus in Moodbidri, said M. Mohan Alva, Chairman of the Foundation, in a release here.

The event would also witness felicitation to five people who have contributed in the field of children literature and culture during its valedictory in the evening. They include Vittala Beladi Kanthavara, Jeevan Ram Sullia, Sri Rama Bhatta Sajangadde from Udupi, Venki Phalimar (Venkatramana Kamath) and Saligrama Makkala Mela, Kota. The award carries a certificate, citation and cash prize of Rs. 5,000.

During the inaugural of the event at 9.30 a.m., child prodigies Akshay Hegde Volakadu, Ayana V. Raman and Geethalakshmi K. would be felicitated with Alva’s Student Award 2014. The convention would have four lectures from students, including Akshay Hegde Volakadu, Utpala B.M., Deepthi Rao and Mahalakshmi Uppinakudru. Two elders — Shreeshakumar from Puttur and Talanath Balyaya Varkadi — would deliver lectures on the occasion, Mr. Alva said.

Many students, including Chittaranjan Shetty Kateel and Geethalakshmi K. from Moodbidri, Akaanksha Kajegadde from Sullia, and Sandhya M. from Ujire, would recite poems in the student poets’ meet to be chaired by Ananya Balanthimogaru from Manila Government High School, Bantwal. Primary school students would render theatre music during a separate session. There would also be various cultural programmes by students.

The valedictory would be followed by cultural programmes, including theatre songs of B.V. Karantha, a play ‘Madhyama Vyayoga’ directed by Jeevanram Sullia, a Yakshagana episode ‘Tarani Sena Kalaga’ directed by Sadashiva Shettigar, and another called ‘Veera Vrushasena’ by Saligrama Makkala Mela directed by Sridhara Hande and Sujayindra Hande.

The public could also participate in the event.
