Mentally unstable youth sneaks out of hospital, dies in road accident at Sion

In a freak incident, a 23-year old mentally unsound man was run over by a speeding car near Sion Hospital in the wee hours of Sunday. The youth had inflicted wounds on his body at his Ghatkopar residence on Saturday and was brought to Sion Hospital by his mother. While his mother was busy, he fled the hospital and was run over by a car.

The deceased has been identified as Ashok Ramkhilavan Yadav, a resident of Dalvi Chawl at Golibar area of Ghatkopar (W)

According to the police, Yadav was mentally unsound and had caused injuries on his hands, ears and head using a glass piece at his residence on Saturday night. "Yadav had sustained injuries after which his mother Chandrama Devi Yadav, 50, who is also the complainant in the case, had treated him at home first and then brought him to Sion Hospital," said a police officer at Sion Hospital.

"While Yadav's mother was busy filling up the admission paper, he sneaked out of the hospital. Around 1:05am on Sunday, while crossing the road near Manav Seva Sangh at Sion, a speeding car dashed into him and sped away. Yadav succumbed to head injuries," informed the officer.

The police have registered a case against an unknown car driver in this regard and are investigating the case further.
