AHMEDABAD: The football ground to be prepared at the cost of Rs 22.5 lakh on the Gaekwad Haveli premises, will be named after Vasant-Rajab who laid down their lives for communal harmony in 1946 .
“We have forwarded a request to the city police chief Shivanand Jha for a grant of Rs 22.5 lakh for getting the ground ready. We have also requested a yearly grant of Rs 1 lakh for maintenance,” said crime branch officials.

Officials of city crime branch who are playing a leading role in the preparation of the ground within the Haveli premises, said the ground will be for under-16 players.
“The ground will be 87.5m in length and 47m in breadth. “The football ground will be specially for students from government-run schools from the city,” said a crime branch official.
Deputy commissioner of police, crime branch, Himanshu Shukla said that they plan to rope in a professional football coach for the students who come there to play football.
Meanwhile, the crime branch has also undertaken a task to find the relatives of Vasant and Rajab. “We have met relatives of Vasant. We have also tracked relatives of Rajab who are now settled in America. “We want to know more about the two mascots of communal harmony,” said Shukla.
Crime branch officials said a police museum will come up at the circular watch tower and a home theatre will be build inside the rooms located on the gate of the Haveli.
