MUMBAI: The city economic offenses wing (EOW) has issued notices to the popular Cafe Coffe Day (CCD) not to allow the representatives of QNet, a marketing firm, which is currently facing a criminal case of cheating involving a fraud of Rs 425 crore. The police during the investigation of this case found that some members used to meet at CCD's various outlets in the city and would conduct small seminars to induct new members in the fraud.
"We have issued notices to all the Cafes of CCD in the city asking them not to allow such meetings of QNet," said Rajvardhan Sinha, additional commissioner of police, EOW.
The firm posed as a marketing company and sold bio disc and other electronics products claiming to cure diseases such as Cancer. So far, the police have arrested 10 persons in this fraud including two women. One of them is an ex daughter in-law of Padmbhusan recipient Maichel Ferrera. He has also approached the court for pre-arrest bail. Last week, the police summoned an official of PR company which has been handling the media work of the fraud firm. The police have frozen a bank account of this PR firm.
The notices have been displayed at the main entrance gate of various CCD outlets. It reads: "As per instructions received from Economic Offence Wing-Crime branch, Mumbai and additional police commission of EOW Mumbai, entry is prohibited for representatives, staff and employees of Vihaan Direct Selling (India) Pvt Ltd, QNet Limited (Hong Kong), Transview Enterprises India Pvt Ltd and Vanamala Hotels, Travels & Tourism Services Pvt Ltd." A line in the notice read: "NOTE: We are not associated with the above mentioned in any way."
