I am pursing my PGDM in apparels from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International School of Textiles and Management, Coimbatore. I am looking forward to doing my two-month internship in a good MNC buying house. Can you guide me?

Internship and on-the-job training (OJT) programmes support the learners to get to know a company better, perform a task assigned, get an appreciation and finally land up with an offer letter to join the company. Most of the established academic bodies have a network that supports the students to get to the best of internships and OJTs.

This apart the standing of the institution also matters. The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International School of Textiles and Management (SVPISTM) has its own standing and its research and academic status has been appreciated. Its students have been considered as material fit for the corporate world and to assume a position without further training.

Students proceeding on an internship or OJT must be keen on learning and contributing to the success of the organisation that they will be embedded in, and also imbibe skills that the organisation provides. They should also approach the organisation with a project study centred around an issue that it faces, or even get a project assigned on an issue being faced by the organisation.

I wish to know the possibility of completing the balance three semesters of a three-year course which I discontinued in 2009. I had approached the college and it said that there was no provision to complete the course beyond a stipulated time. I am confused, and would like to complete the programme through distance education. Please guide me.

Any University and its affiliated colleges will be guided by statutes and ordinances that are created as frameworks for the benefits of all the stakeholders. The statutes provide adequate cushioning to support the cause of the students in particular and others in general.

You have not clearly provided details of the course or the college or the University where you were pursuing the programme.

However, we at EducationPlus would suggest that you approach the University authorities directly, keeping the college notified, and make a request to help you to complete the programme.

In case the statutes do not permit you to either complete or move to any other programme as provided by the University, there is no other opportunity but to repeat the programme and complete the same within the time frame stipulated.

In regards to moving from the campus mode to the distance mode, one should read the statute and find out if the programme is available in the distance mode and whether the switchover is allowed.

I am a student of final year B.Sc. Can I pursue a degree in M.A. English literature? I want to pursue this while my father wants me to do M.Sc. What do I do? I also want to know if the English faculty members get salary under the UGC scale. Above all this I want to be a video game tester. Please guide me.

One is sure you had selected the B.Sc programme with a reason. However, if your priorities have changed on account of further understanding or decisions taken because of the peer influence or an input from a counsellor, then you should make up your mind and pursue the programme rather than losing steam and interest in the long run.

It is the confusion that occurs in the minds of the students at critical junctures that leads to issues in the academic set-up and ultimately one not being able to reach the desired goal fixed by self, parents, friends and peers.

In your case, you are selecting two diverse fields of study. Considering that you have not provided the combination of the B.Sc programme that you are pursuing we will not be in a position to guide you in a pointed manner. The video game tester programmes are short-term ones and the pedagogy is very dynamic.

If you had decided earlier to pursue M.Sc programmes, which your father also wants you to pursue, then there will be reason for the same. It is better to have a discussion once again and make a final conclusion on the programme to pursue.

A Master’s in English Literature will surely take you to the domain of teaching, wherein if you join the higher education scenario, viz., a degree college or a university, you will be paid salaries as per the University Grants Commission (UGC) (www.ugc.ac.in) standards. Of course, you will have to do Ph.D. to progress to the top echelons.
