Rupesh Paul: The art of tagging movies International
Director Rupesh Paul is slowly making inroads into the global market, with his Kamasutra 3D almost ready for release. The film has the unique distinction of getting distribution rights in the maximum number of international territories, even in places like Peru and West Indies where no Indian films are released. The film will be released like a mainstream Hollywood film, in major theatres all over the world, unlike the overseas release of Bollywood films, which get released only in Indian pockets in the UK, US and Australia, by Indian distributors.
The response has inspired him to explore the global market further by planning two more films. The Vanishing Act is based on the missing MH 370 Malaysian flight and created a furore when its teaser was released at the Cannes. The western media considered it as an encashing of a tragedy and Rupesh Paul was forced to apologise. However, soon after the screening he received 16 co-production offers for the film.
36 MM 3D, the biopic on Marlyn Monroe, has already made a mark in that almost 600 artists applied for the auditions, something new for an Indian film. The film is in the pre-production stage now.
