Sound and light programme at Oval Grounds in Mysore from November 7 to 11

A sound-and-light programme featuring on Karnataka's culture and history will be staged on the Mysore University's Oval grounds from November 7 to 11.

The programme, called ‘Karnataka Vaibhava’, which coincides with Karnataka Rajyotsava celebrations, is aimed at attracting tourists to Mysore, said an official statement here.

About 80 artistes will be participating in the two-hour-long programme, conceptualised by the Songs and Drama division of the Union Ministry of Information and Publicity.

Deputy Commissioner of Mysore C. Shikha chaired a preliminary meeting of different officials of Mysore district administration on Saturday to make necessary arrangements for the programme.

She entrusted the work of barricading the Oval grounds to Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) officials, while Public Works Department (PWD) officials were asked to set up the stage and the green room. Ms. Shikha asked the officials of Tourism Department to function as nodal officers for all the arrangements to be made for the successful conduct of Karnataka Vaibhava.

She also asked officials of the Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation to ensure uninterrupted power supply during the programme.

Local artistes

Artistes for the programme will be selected through a direct interview.

During the meeting, Ms. Shikha instructed officials to ensure that all arrangements including transport and lodging of artistes were made.

Meanwhile, the selection of about 80 artistes, actors and child artistes for the Karnataka Vaibhava programme will be held at Vartha Bhavan near Dasappa Circle on Dhanwantri Road in Mysore at 10.30 am on October 30.

Artistes from Mysore and surrounding areas can attend the interview with three passport sized photographs and a copy of their bio-data, with an application addressed to the Regional Deputy Director, Songs and Drama Division, Bangalore. The selected artistes will be paid an honorarium and certificate of participation, an official statement added.
