Congress asks BJP, Modi to clarify

Ajay Maken called the article a “hate piece, barbaric and illegal”.

The Congress on Saturday asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP to clarify their stand on the article in RSS mouthpiece Kesari that said that Nathuram Godse should have targeted Jawaharlal Nehru instead of Mahatma Gandhi. The Congress said the article reaffirms that the basic tenets of the BJP/RSS ideology are hatred and violence.

“The argument by the BJP leader that Nathuram Godse should have killed Jawaharlal Nehru instead of Mahatma Gandhi reaffirms that the basic tenets of their ideology are hatred and violence. It is difficult to find this kind of perverse discourse anywhere except the darkest corner of a ‘bankrupt mind’ that the RSS and BJP thrive upon,” AICC general secretary Ajay Maken said.

He was reacting to the article by B Gopalakrishnan, who was the BJP candidate from Kerala’s Chalakudy constituency in the Lok Sabha elections.

The article, which appeared in the Malayalam mouthpiece of the RSS, Kesari, said that Nehru’s selfish politics was behind all national tragedies, including the Partition and Gandhi’s assassination.

Maken called the article a “hate piece, barbaric and illegal”.

Festive offer

“The Prime Minister and the BJP should immediately make their stance clear on the statement. Silence on their part, would only point towards their complicity,” he said.

“What is worrying is that such horrifying and illicit views of a member of the ruling party are shamelessly carried in the RSS mouthpiece. Their willingness to eliminate the most significant nation builder tells a lot about the kind of politics the ruling party wants to nurture in the country,” he said.
